Minnesota Tater Tot Hot Dish

Living in Türkiye, we do not have access to concentrated creamy soups or tater tots. So this hot dish is a labor of love on those days that we are missing Minnesota! Enjoy!

This elevated tater tot casserole transforms a classic comfort dish into a wholesome meal built from scratch. Instead of relying on processed components, this recipe features homemade tater tots crafted from freshly boiled, grated potatoes, creating a crisp, golden topping free of additives. The meat mixture combines lean ground beef with a colorful medley of green beans, carrots, celery, and aromatics, offering a balanced blend of protein, fiber, and vitamins.

A key element of this recipe is the condensed soup base—made simply with butter, gluten-free flour, white wine, milk, and bone broth—which provides a rich, velvety sauce without the preservatives typically found in canned versions. Worcestershire sauce, mustard, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar add layers of savory depth and acidity, making the filling robust and flavorful.

Finished with a generous topping of cheese and baked until bubbling, this casserole delivers familiar comfort while emphasizing whole ingredients and thoughtful preparation. It’s a hearty, family-friendly dish that demonstrates how traditional favorites can be reimagined with more intentional, nutrient-forward choices.
