Fried Apple Fritters

These apple fritters are a festive, flavorful treat that combine tender, spiced dough with a warm, fruity apple filling. Naturally sweetened with honey and pomegranate juice, and enriched with aromatic spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, they offer a perfect balance of sweetness and warmth. Finished with a glossy pomegranate glaze, these fritters are both visually stunning and deliciously indulgent, making them an ideal dessert or special occasion treat.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup tapioca flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Apple Mixture

  • 2 green apples, peeled & diced
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 tbsp honey

Oil

  • 2 cups oil for frying

Pomegranate Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cup swerve (or powdered sugar)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Add the yeast & honey to warm milk, and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Add in the remaining dough ingredients. Knead & cover to rise for an hour.
  3. Heat up all of the apple mixture ingredients & simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the apples into the risen dough.
  5. Roll the dough out into a rectangle and slice into 1/2 inch cubes.
  6. Combine the cubes & divide into 10-15 patties.
  7. Cover & let them rise for another 45 minutes.
  8. Mix the pomegranate glaze ingredients together.
  9. Fry in hot oil for about 2 minutes on each side.
  10. Dip the fritters in the glaze and enjoy!
